About SPC Performance Lab

SPC Performance Lab is a private 24 7 gym in Taren Point created as an alternative to the typical commercial gym. It was designed for people who want to get stronger, build muscle, improve lifting technique, or get expert coaching without dealing with busy crowds, waiting for equipment, or ego-driven environments that feel impersonal. Alongside gym memberships, SPC also offers university qualified coaching using evidence-based training methods.

Before opening SPC Performance Lab in 2019, I had been coaching in commercial gyms since 2014. Across different facilities, I kept seeing the same problems: overcrowded gyms, poor equipment for strength training and powerlifting, long waits for equipment, and very little sense of community.

Around the Sutherland Shire area, most options were commercial chains, group training, or CrossFit, without many small independent gyms focused on weight training. SPC Performance Lab came from a simple question: if I were a member, how would I want to be treated?

The goal was to create a gym with a welcoming, community-based atmosphere, proper equipment for strength training, a place where people actually say hello to each other, and a membership model without hidden fees, lock-in contracts, or the usual commercial gym nonsense.

Paul Attard owner and head coach at SPC Performance Lab

Hi, I’m Paul Attard

I’m the owner and head coach at SPC Performance Lab. Since 2014, I’ve been coaching full-time, working with everyone from complete beginners learning basic strength training technique through to more advanced lifters preparing for powerlifting competitions.

What I like most about coaching is understanding the underlying concepts, theories, and finer details of training, programming, and nutrition, then applying that in an adaptable way to the person in front of me.

I teach people the reasoning behind what they are doing, so over time they build their own understanding instead of just following instructions blindly.

My coaching is built from a mix of evidence-based information, years of university study, personal experience from my own training and competition history, and real-world coaching experience working with people across different goals and ability levels.
